Increasing employer ownership of skills

To mark National Apprenticeship Week this week, the Prime Minister announced that businesses and providers can bid for a share of a £6m fund to support the development of new Higher Apprenticeships in sectors including aerospace, energy and renewable.

The Employer Ownership pilot was also opened today which provides £250m of public funds to give employers control over the design and delivery of skills training.  Further information on this fund is available here.

NECC welcomes increasing employer involvement in the skills system to ensure that employees, and in particular young people, are equipped with the skills needed by businesses.  This will go some way to overcoming our region’s skills gaps and helping our business community to grow.  To give your view, leave a comment on this blog or email helen.hayes@necc.co.uk.
